The CBI sleuths also raided the office of the housing society in the posh suburb of Colabe in Mumbai and seized some documents.

The CBI raided the houses of chief promoters Kanahyalal Gidwani, who is also a Congress party leader, R.C. Thakur and retired Brig. M.M. Wacchu. A CBI official said they would also interrogate Chavan in the scam issue soon.

Speaking to the media after the raids, Gidwani said that he would not like to comment on the raid as the matter was sub judice and pending in the Bombay High Court. To a question on the claim of the CBI of having found indiscriminating documents from his residence Gidwani said, “The CBI do not need permission for a raid and they come with a warrant. They have every right as per the law to carry out search and seize anything they consider important for their investigations. I cannot comment on their claim whether or not indiscriminating documents were found in my house. We have done nothing illegal, and from the past three months I have been stating that I have three flats in the society."

Meanwhile in related development, Eknath Khadse, the senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and leader of the opposition in the Maharashtra Assembly, lashing out at the state government in the housing scam and said that inquiry into the Adarsh society scam will be a farce if the names of former chief minister and federal ministers Vilasrao Deshmukh, Sushil Kumar Shinde, former bureaucrats Subash Lala and Ramanand Tiwari are not mentioned in the case filed by the CBI. The names of big horses should have been mentioned first in the FIR, he added.

Speaking to the media here on Sunday, Khadse further said, "Offenses against 13 people have been registered in the case by the CBI after a delay of nearly three months. I do not have complete information about the contents mentioned in the FIR and would speak in details after receiving the detailed information. It is rumored that ministers and bureaucrats have benefited in the housing society when the file relating to the Society had gone to them for clearance. Therefore the names of all those ministers and bureaucrats should have been mentioned first in the FIR, which was not done. All the ministers and bureaucrats would have to resign for their role in the housing scam.”
