He made this statement on Sunday while presiding over a meeting of a ministerial committee that was set up recently on the king's directives to find immediate solutions for Jeddah's recurrent floods.

At least 10 people died and several others injured while hundreds of vehicles and houses damaged as a result of Jan. 26 deluge following six hours of downpour.

"The committee has a great responsibility in implementing King Abdullah's directives by taking immediate measures to correct the situation and providing assistance to the victims," he said.

Prince Naif said the committee would find out the individuals who were responsible for the unprecedented flooding, adding that they would receive deterrent punishment. King Abdullah had earlier warned that negligent officials would be punished.

The meeting reviewed the efforts being made by the various government departments to deal with the situation in flood-affected areas and identified the reasons for recurrent flooding in Jeddah.

He said Tuesday's field visit would help him get a comprehensive picture of what should be done in all areas in order to prevent a repeat of what had happened on Jan. 26 in the future.

The meeting, which was held at Prince Naif's office in Riyadh, was attended by Makkah Gov. Prince Khaled Al-Faisal, Municipal and Rural Affairs Minister Prince Mansour bin Miteb, Assistant Interior Minister Prince Muhammad bin Naif, Finance Minister Ibrahim Al-Assaf, Transport Minister Jabara Al-Seraisry, Water and Electricity Minister Abdullah Al-Hussayen and Acting Health Minister Yousuf Al-Othaimeen.
