Due to the turmoil and violence in Egypt against the Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, about 4000 Indians are in trouble in different parts of Egypt. Soon after their arrival at the Mumbai airport, the Indians returning from Cairo expressed sigh of relief. Several of the passengers in an interaction with the media stated that they were feeling secure after landing on the Indian soil.

An Air India official told Arab News that the national carrier has planned more special flights as still there are thousands of Indians who are stranded in Egypt and want to return home. One more aircraft carrying 400 Indians from Cairo would land late on Monday night, the official said.

Meanwhile a spokesperson of the Indian Ministry of External Affairs stated that all the remaining Indians still stranded in Egypt would be safely brought back to India soon.

In another development, Popat Shinde, the prime accused in the murder of additional collector Yeshwant Sonawane died at Mumbai’s JJ Hospital on Monday morning. Popat had burned Sonawane alive on Jan. 25 in Manmad, when the government official had dared to check adulteration of petrol in a tanker owned by Popat. The sensational murder had drawn wide protests across the state and the country with state government officials going on a strike. The police had arrested 11 accused in the case.

The prime accused received 70 percent burn injuries when Sonawane who was set ablaze grabbed the accused and held him tight along with him. The accused was undergoing treatment for the past six days and was not responding to the medical treatment to save him, and died today without regaining consciousness.

In yet another important development, the Central Bureau of Investigations (CBI) continued to raid the residences of prime accused named in the First Information Report (FIR) in the controversial Adarsh housing scam of Mumbai.

On Sunday late evening, the CBI officials raided the residences of the controversial suspended Maharashtra State Information Commissioner Ramanand Tiwari in Mumbai and claimed to have seized incriminating documents. On Monday morning at 6 a.m., CBI officials raided again the office of the housing society and another team raided the residence of RC Thakur, one of the chief promoters of the housing society in Nagpur. The CBI also raided the house of State Urban Development Department deputy secretary PV Deshmukh in neighboring Thane city.

The CBI team which raided the residence of Thakur in Mumbai on Sunday had tried to raid his Nagpur residence on the same day, but since it was locked, the CBI sealed it and pasted a notice on the door. On Monday, the CBI team had to break the locks and then the door of the house, as none of the family members of the Thakur had arrived with keys to the house. Details of what was found and seized were not disclosed by the CBI.

The CBI last Saturday had registered a FIR against 13 persons including former Congress Chief Minister Ashok Chavan. The CBI then carried out raids throughout the country at the residences of few named in the FIR
