Fear not, however, for Arab News spoke to Tanya Rex, brand makeup artist for Mikyajy and Ghada Alsobahi, marketing manager of Avon, to give you the inside scoop for what’s hot for 2011.

To say smoky eyes are an Arabian heritage inherited from Cleopatra, is not wrong. Rex predicts: "Smoky eyes seem to be here to stay. In 2010, smoky eyes were teamed with strong lips for a really dramatic look, but I think that whether you use a classic gray-black color or a softer bronze tone to create your smoky eye, you can always tone down the lips to a nude shade for an anytime evening finish."

For girls who don't like to apply eye shadows, but still want to look trendy, try colorful eyeliners. "Colorful eyeliners will definitely be in fashion in 2011. Use them as your only liner or pair a color with a classic black liner to create a modern fresh look," says Rex.

With lip colors now available in hundreds of various types such as glossy, matt, shimmery, tube form, mousse and others, all you have to do is innovative with it. "Mostly shimmery shades with golden touches are predicted, and rosy shades with shimmer will look cool. Cool and light colors are expected for this year," says Alsobahi.

2011 is going to be rocking when it comes to nail colors. "Nails have gone crazy! And, any color goes: from cool green to fuchsia pink. So, have fun and experiment to find your perfect match," remarks Alsobahi.

Asians are lucky to have a wheatish complexion that fantastically suits any color tone, provided you wear it confidently!

"Asian complexions always look good with a red tone lip and a solid black liquid eyeliner. Use a red lipstick or gloss that has a slightly warmer orange tone in it to complement the skin tone and soften the overall effect. Smoky eyes can also look good on Asian complexions, but stick to a lighter gray tone as black can be too harsh and overpowering. If doing smoky eyes, use a pale coral or light pink-toned nude lipstick," she advises.

Teens are lucky as they can wear almost anything. "I always suggest that teens stick to a fresh natural look, as they usually have healthy, glowing skin. All they have to do is use a really light foundation with a mousse blush, little mascara and a fun, fruity lip gloss.  The most important thing to remember on young faces is that less is most definitely more. A line of colored pencil on the eyes can also be a great addition for a colorful, day at the beach look,” recommends Rex.

While some may opt for a contemporary funky look, one shouldn’t forget about the classic look.

"I tend to stick to the more classic looks that are timeless so that I can wear them in both summer and winter, only use less powder in the winter, as skin may not be too oily. In the summer, I love a sun-kissed look. To get that look, use a warm toned bronzer on cheeks and pair that with a golden smoky eye. In winter, use cooler shades such as gray, pink and blue on the eyes, as color is a great pick-me-up in the cooler winter months. Winter trends are going to be luxurious with rich reds and glittery gold(s) coming through as key colors this season. Create a warm smoky eye with bronze and gold, and pair it with a cherry red or fuchsia pink lip for an all over festive feeling," she suggested.

To give your makeup more oomph, give your skin a smooth, blemish-free look. My most important tip is to always spend the most time on your foundation. If you do not get your skin looking amazing, your make up will never look great. Apply concealer first over all blemishes and dark circles, and blend it well before applying your foundation.  Make sure that you choose a foundation that matches your skin color and always blend it into your hairline and onto your jawline for a natural finish. Lastly, always set foundation with pressed or loose powder for a longer-lasting effect.
