Ajit, who has a habit of humiliating his ministerial colleagues and officials, did not spare journalists either and administered the bitter dose of his arrogance at the function.

In a reference to journalists, Ajit said in his speech, "It's high time that now your industry should be closed down and you people should be banned from covering any government functions. You journalists should learn to report true stories and publish the good work done by the government.”

Ajit’s outbursts took place when after inaugurating an irrigation project at Limboti town in Nanded district, a former village headman Ashok Patil Boienvad of Rohi village in Ahmedpur sub-town put some tough questions to him. Ajit lost his cool and in a tone laced with anger, asked Boienvad to sit down. The heated verbal duel between the two caught the attention of the electronic and print media, which diverted its focus, form Ajit's speech to Boeinvad questions and began interviewing him.

Ajit observing that the media was ignoring him and diverting its attention on Boeinvad, shouted at journalists and said, "There is a need to ban your profession. Learn to be honest and produce truthful and factual news. When there is a small flood in the village, you people report it as large flood. You people need to be disciplined," he added.

Soon after Ajit's tirade against journalists, the District Superintendent of Police Sandip Karnik and the policemen present at the function snatched the cameras and notebooks of some the journalists. This led to a minor scuffle between the police and the journalists. Police also used abusive and threatening language with the journalists.

Thereafter, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) workers also clashed with the journalists and beat them. When Ajit was informed by the police that the journalists have boycotted his function, he said "If they want to boycott, let them do so, who cares for the journalists," and continued with his speech.

Commenting on Ajit's irresponsible behavior toward the media, a local Congress leader said "Ajit is the spoilt child in the Pawar family. His tantrums and arrogant behavior is being tolerated because of his uncle Sharad Pawar, the NCP supremo and federal agriculture minister," the leader said.
