- KABUL, Afghanistan: Officials in Afghanistan’s northern Kunduz province say a suicide bomber blew himself up inside a district chief’s office, killing him and two other people.
Provincial government spokesman Mabobullah Sayedi says the bomber was able to enter the Chahar Darah chief’s office on Thursday by pretending to be looking for work.
The spokesman says the blast killed district chief Abdul Wahid Omarkhail along with a bodyguard and a village elder who was visiting at the time.
Sayedi and the district chief of police Gulam Mohyuddin say five others were also wounded in the blast.
Although the focus of the US-led war is in southern and eastern Afghanistan, insurgents have been working to expand their influence in the north.
