The police said the driver, an African, had used the official school vehicle to transport liquor from place to place in the city.

“The driver was caught with a large quantity of water bottles containing liquor, which he was transporting to various dealers,” a police spokesman said, adding that the suspect admitted his guilt.

After seeing the fully tinted vehicle moving on a flyover in the south of the capital, the police decided to follow it.

The driver, who became nervous after spotting the police car behind him, started driving erratically, which prompted police to stop the Hyundai van.

Further investigations are being carried out by Deerah police in the Batha district.

The police arrested one man who had rented a separate house for the brewing of liquor.

Neighbors had complained to the police about an unusual smell emanating from the house.

The police found 14 barrels and 62 bottles containing the brewed liquor inside the house. The police also confiscated a car belonging to the suspect that had a large quantity of ingredients used for making liquor.
