The two-day conference aims to prepare a road map to guarantee aviation security in the region.

“The Kingdom has a firm and clear commitment to fight all forms of terrorism, including terrorist acts targeting civil aviation or using civil aircraft as weapons of mass destruction,” said Vice President of General Authority for Civil Aviation Prince Turki bin Faisal bin Turki, who is leading the Saudi delegation to the conference.

In a statement to the Saudi Press Agency, the prince said the Kingdom through its participation in this conference would contribute constructively and positively to the road map as Riyadh has a leading position in the region.

He pointed out that the Kingdom has been a strong supporter of cooperation in the field of aviation safety at all levels, including continuing support for ICAO's role in protecting the security of civil aviation against criminal and subversive acts.

The delegation includes Kingdom’s permanent representative to the ICAO Talal Kabli, director general of the affairs of international organizations Saud Hashim, Director General of Central Administration for aviation security Abdul Hameed Abul Ora, the Saudi Press Agency reported.

ICAO was founded in 1947 though its forerunner was established at a conference in Chicago in 1944.
