- SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico: The US military says it has reached a plea deal with a Guantanamo prisoner from Sudan who helped run an Al-Qaeda training camp in Afghanistan.
Navy Capt. David Iglesias is a spokesman for the war crimes tribunals at Guantanamo. Iglesias says Noor Uthman pleaded guilty to one count of providing material support to terrorism and one count of conspiracy. He entered the plea at a hearing Tuesday at the US base in Cuba.
The terms of the deal have not been released.
A military jury will next consider a sentence for Uthman.
Iglesias says he faces up to life in prison. But he is likely to serve much less.
Noor is the third plea deal at Guantanamo under President Barack Obama.
