- GAZA CITY: The Rafah Crossing border, the only gate for Gazans to the outside world, will be reopened for residents to travel starting from Tuesday, officials at the border point said.
Ghazi Hamad, head of the borders department in the Hamas-led government, told reporters Sunday that the crossing point will reopen from Tuesday for 300 passengers a day.
The crossing point has been closed since the beginning of civil unrest in Egypt on Jan. 25. On Friday evening, the terminal opened for the first time to let thousands of stranded Palestinians to return home to Gaza. According to officials, since Friday around 850 Gazans have returned home.
Thousands of Palestinians, including patients seeking medical treatment and students, have been trapped in Egypt since the crossing was closed a few weeks ago.
