- RAMALLAH: A senior Fatah official on Sunday said that his movement resumed its efforts to reconcile with Hamas to end the internal split in Palestinian territories.
Nabil Sha’ath, a member of Fatah’s Central Committee, told Voice of Palestine Radio he will visit Gaza Strip in two weeks for talks with Hamas to reach a national reconciliation agreement.
The political unity in West Bank and Gaza Strip was severed since Hamas routed pro-President Mahmoud Abbas forces and ousted Fatah in deadly fighting in Gaza in 2007.
Sha’ath added that his movement “has ideas that should be given to Hamas and they have to carry out efforts from their side to achieve national reconciliation agreement.”
The Fatah official said that Abbas urged the Central Council members to intensify their contacts and efforts in the direction of overcoming obstacles preventing reconciliation with Hamas.
