- POUGHKEEPSIE, NY: Police in upstate New York say an officer was killed by a wounded gunman who first shot his wife and himself in a parked car.
The couple's 3-year-old daughter was unharmed.
Poughkeepsie police Chief Ron Knapp says 27-year-old Lee Welch pumped two shots into Jessica Welch while the couple sat in the family car near a train station Friday afternoon. Knapp says the 28-year-old mother of three died of a gunshot to her head.
The police chief said Sunday her husband then shot himself in the chest and grabbed their child and staggered from the car as officers approached.
Police say Officer John Falcone died of a bullet to the head fired by the bleeding gunman. They say the gunman committed suicide with a shot to the head.
