Reddy was here to attend an extraordinary ministerial meeting of the International Energy Forum in Riyadh on Tuesday."India’s relationship with Saudi Arabia has stepped up following the visit of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah in 2006 and the subsequent reciprocal visit by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to Riyadh last year," he said, stressing that such high-level visits have further strengthened bilateral relations between the two countries."Nearly two million Indians are living in Saudi Arabia, the single largest overseas group of Indians anywhere in the world."He said Indian overseas workers in the Kingdom are contributing a great deal to their country in many ways. He also said that the Indian Minister of Overseas Indian Affairs frequently visits Saudi Arabia in recognition of their services and contributions toward their motherland.Reddy said the Indian population in the Kingdom all consisted of Indian passport holders who contributed a lot to their homeland."Our relationship with Saudi Arabia has been improving in recent years because of the fundamental change in Saudi Arabia’s attitude toward India. Today India is the largest democracy in the world and also a superpower in information technology," he said.Reddy refrained to comment on the Telangana issue and the current situation in the Middle East.The minister was addressing the reception hosted by Indian Ambassador Talmiz Ahmad and his wife. A large gathering of the Indian community in Riyadh was also present."The Indian community is fortunate that this meeting (at the International Energy Forum) takes place in Riyadh and it has given an opportunity for the community to meet the minister,” Ahmad said. Reddy represents the Chevella constituency of Andhra Pradesh.India’s major imports from the Kingdom are petroleum and petrochemical products. Twenty percent of its oil requirements has come from the Kingdom in the past 15 years.
