Tyler Kennedy scored twice for the Penguins, including tying the game by stuffing in Jordan Staal's rebound, with 50 seconds remaining in the third period.

Marleau scored the decisive goal during a scramble in front, and after Marc-Andre Fleury stopped Couture from in close. The rebound dribbled to the left of the net, where Marleau flipped it in.

At Tampa, Florida, Teddy Purcell had his first career hat trick, and Vincent Lecavalier added a goal and four assists as Tampa Bay ended Phoenix's eight-game winning streak.

Purcell had one of the five opening-period goals, and added a pair during the second.

Steven Stamkos scored his NHL-leading 41st goal this season, and Martin St. Louis also had two goals and an assist for the Lightning, who are 6-3-2 during a 12-game homestand.

Phoenix got goals from Martin Hanzal, Kyle Turris and David Schlemko. The eight goals is the most allowed by the Coyotes this season.

At Buffalo, New York, Tyler Myers had a goal and assist, and Ryan Miller made 40 saves to lift Buffalo over Atlanta in front of new Sabres owner Terry Pegula.

Paul Gaustad, Jason Pominville, and Tyler Ennis also scored for the Sabres (28-25-6), who snapped a three-game losing streak to win the fourth game of a season-long six-game homestand.

The Sabres and Thrashers came in tied for ninth place in the Eastern Conference with 60 points. With the win, Buffalo moved within three points of idle Carolina for the eighth and final playoff spot with two games in hand.

Andrew Ladd scored, and Ondrej Pavelec finished with 35 saves for the slumping Thrashers (25-26-10).

At Ottawa, Bobby Butler scored twice and Craig Anderson made 23 saves as Ottawa ended a 10-game home losing streak.

Butler, who has five goals in his past five games, scored midway through the first. He added his second of the game midway through the second to give Ottawa its second two-goal lead.

Jason Spezza had a goal and two assists and Ryan Shannon had a goal and an assist. Milan Michalek also scored for the Senators, who had not won at Scotiabank Place in nearly two months.

Anderson won his second start in a row since the Senators acquired him from Colorado on Friday in a trade for goalie Brian Elliott.

Chris Higgins scored his 11th goal for Florida, which has lost four of five. Scott Clemmensen stopped 29 shots.

At Denver, rookie Taylor Hall had a goal and an assist, and goalie Devan Dubnyk made 38 saves to lead Edmonton past Colorado.

The game got off to a rough start when Ryan O'Byrne, an Avalanche defenseman, had his face slashed by the blade of a passing skater as he skated low behind the net some four minutes after the first puck was dropped. Bleeding badly from the cut, O'Byrne was escorted into the locker room for initial treatment before being taken to a nearby hospital.

Dustin Penner, Sam Gagner, Jordan Eberle and Kurtis Foster also scored for Edmonton.

Milan Hejduk scored for Colorado.

At Anaheim, California, Willie Mitchell scored the go-ahead goal in the third period to give Los Angeles a victory over Anaheim in the 99th meeting between the rivals.

Mitchell snapped a 2-2 tie with just his second goal of the season and first since Oct. 28 at Dallas. His slap shot from the top of the left circle sailed through traffic and found the top right corner of the net at 6:45.

It allowed the Kings to move ahead of the Ducks in the tightly bunched Western Conference playoff race. Goaltender Jonathan Quick made 25 saves for his 28th victory. Curtis McElhinney stopped 15 shots for the Ducks, who lost their fourth in a row.
