- COLOMBO: Thousands of Sri Lanka's opposition activists have protested in the capital demanding that the government do something about the high cost of living.
The Marxist People's Liberation Front's activists and supporters marched in Colombo and held a protest rally Tuesday.
Opposition lawmaker Anura Dissanayake said the government has failed to fulfill its promises to the people since the country's civil war ended.
He urged the government to cut down unnecessary state expenditure such as maintaining a jumbo cabinet of nearly 61 cabinet ministers and 31 deputies.
Government troops crushed the Tamil Tiger in May 2009, ending Sri Lanka's decades-long civil war.
