Two of the dead pilgrims were identified as Malaysians and the third an Indonesian woman.

The fourth victim was the second driver in the bus.

The bus was carrying 33 Malaysians and an undisclosed number of Indonesian pilgrims to Madinah when it rammed into the rear of the truck that was laden with heavy cargo.

While the victims died on the spot, 31 passengers were taken to nearby hospitals with injuries.

One of the six critically injured pilgrims was airlifted to a hospital in Jeddah, police and Civil Defense sources said.

In a similar accident last week, the driver of a pilgrim coach was killed when a truck overturned and hit the bus close to Arafat in Makkah.
