It declined to discuss contract details such as volumes and payment terms as a matter of principle.

OMV said it was respecting all UN and European Union sanctions against Libya, which did not include economic measures that would affect the company.

Libya normally accounts for around 10 percent of OMV output. Romania and Austria generate two-thirds of its output.

OMV said it was evaluating the situation in Libya and was in contact with its partners about the impact of unrest there on production, which it reiterated had been hit hard.

OMV last month shut down the Shateira field it operates in Libya.

It said a local management team and a liaison bureau were in place in the Libyan capital of Tripoli.
