In its final session on Wednesday, the conference also called for the creation of special centers at universities to provide educational, psychological and social guidance to students.

Universities and educational institutions in Islamic and Arab countries should project the true picture of Islam to the world and incorporate the idea of moderate Islam in their syllabuses, participants said in a final communiqué.

Participants, including prominent Muslim scholars, academics and researchers, asked leaders of the Muslim Ummah to incorporate moderate Islam in the relationship of the youth with their rulers, Muslims’ relationships with others and when spreading a culture of dialogue.

The conference asked Arab governments to contribute effectively to the needs and requirements of the contemporary age.

The participants decided to consider the conference an institutional convention for the building of moderate thought and said it should be made an annual event. They asked Taibah University, which hosted the gathering, to set up a committee to consider their recommendations.

The conference discussed 59 research works and studies on the subject over 11 sessions. A symposium, titled "Moderation of Islam and its Impact on Thought and Conduct," was held on the sidelines of the conference.

Sheikh of Al-Azhar Ahmad Al-Tayeb and Grand Mufti of Lebanon Muhammad Rasheed Qabani were among the participants.
