It said its Japanese suppliers have seen some operations disrupted because of the disaster but have not sustained major damage to facilities.

SunPower shares have slumped 9.3 percent in the last two trading sessions.

Solar analysts have said the crisis caused by the quake could sap demand in Japan for new solar modules and could disrupt the production of polysilicon, the key material that turns sunlight into electricity in most types of solar panels.

SunPower said Japanese polysilicon accounts for about 10 percent of the supply that it needs for the second quarter. It said it would seek alternative sources if needed.
