As soon as the assembly proceedings for the second day of the budget session began, the opposition launched frontal attack on Chavan demanding his immediate resignation. The Shiv Sena and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislators constantly raised slogans against Chavan saying “Chavan must go. Mafia raj has to end.” The opposition refused to heed the repeated appeals from the assembly speaker Dilip Walse-Patil, causing regular disruptions and chaos. As the opposition was not willing to relent, the speaker adjourned the house for the day.

As soon as the assembly proceedings began, the opposition leader Eknath Khadse of the BJP demanded that the question hour be set aside and discussions be held on the Thomas issue. Khadse was supported by state BJP president and legislator Sudhir Mungatiwar.

The assembly speaker rejected the demand of the leader of the opposition to discuss the CVC Thomas issue, stating that the subject was beyond the purview of the state assembly.

The situation was no different in the Maharashtra legislative council, where the Opposition did not allow the house to function causing repeated disruptions. After the Speaker had rejected the demand of the Opposition to hold discussion on the CVC issue, Sena and BJP legislators surrounded the podium of the Speaker and raised slogans against the government and chief minister for 35 minutes compelling the speaker of the house to adjourn the house for the day.

According to sources, the opposition is in no mood to spare the state government on a number of issues including that of massive corruption. The BJP legislators are preparing to corner the government in the multi-crore scam of medical equipment purchased by the Director of the Directorate of Medical Education and Research Dr. Wasudeo Tayade and three other officials of the department unearthed recently by the state Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB). Dr. Tayade is also alleged of having fudged his date of birth to gain extension in services and this has also been investigated by the ACB, the sources told Arab News.

A BJP legislator told Arab News, that they would raise the medical scam in the Assembly and council and question the chief minister and the health minister as to why the accused in the scam have not yet been arrested in spite of several charges and registration of cases against them by the ACB.
