The boy had been reported missing a few hours earlier. His clothes were found close to the 5,000-square meter lake, raising suspicions that he might have drowned. The seven-meter deep lake was formed after the recent rains.

The boy is believed to have encountered some difficulties staying afloat and drowned after he ventured into the lake, spokesman for the Civil Defense Lt. Col. Ali Al-Muntashri said in a statement.

However, the police are investigating to see if any foul play was involved.
