The film fest, organized by a number of embassies here in Riyadh, began on Feb. 18. The ambassador of each participant country picks a film from his country to be shown here.

The Korean film, the tenth to be shown so far in the festival, is based on a true story. It tells the tale of a Korean ski-jumping team was formed for the first in 1996, under pressure from the government in a bid to host Winter Olympics in Korea.

To gain experience, the team members as part of their training go through life-threating exercises such as daredevil flights, hanging on a rope from a tree, standing on a deck of a moving car and ski-jumping on top of a ride in a deserted amusement park.

The trials and tribulations the team underwent during training enables the team members to bond and also develop a Korean ski-jumping team that participates in the World Cup.

The festival, lasting until April 8, aims at creating awareness of the cultures of the participant nations among the citizens of those states as well among Saudis.

Nine films have already been screened since the festival opening. They are “Breast Fortress“ from Russia, “Bal“ from Turkey, “Golden Times“ from China, “Salt of the Sea“ from Palestine, ”The Keys of the House“ from Italy, “Who Are You?“ from Kazakhstan, “Home“ from France, “Zozo“ from Sweden, and “The Koutokeino Uprising.“

Seven films remain to be shown. They are: “London River“ from Algeria on March 24, “Fighter“ from Denmark on March 25, “The Rainbow Troops“ from Indonesia, “En Attendant Le Bonheur“ from Burkina Faso, “Nine Queens“ from Argentina, “The Grand Father“ from Spain and “Casablanca“ from US.
