The opposition alleged that the budget was presented keeping the Congress -Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) voters in mind and before their eyes. They also alleged that the budget has been prepared in such a way that it would benefit the voters in the stronghold of the Democratic Front legislators.

As soon as Ajit started his budget speech the opposition legislators created unruly scenes in the House, pitching their voices high as they raised slogans against the state government and tried to disrupt the finance minister’s speech. Ignoring the chaos created by the opposition Ajit continued with his speech. Ajit presented a balanced budget with no increase in taxes.

Ajit said that out of every rupee in the state treasury, 70 percent is spent on the salaries of government employees and interest on loans. The remaining 30 percent is spent on development projects.

Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan stated that the budget presented by his government was taking into consideration the problems of the ‘Common People,” adding that the budget was prepared keeping in mind the expectations of the common people. Apart from that it appears that efforts were made to maintain economic disciple in the budget.
