- MANAMA: A group of 45 intellectuals, economists and professionals have formed a gathering of patriotic Bahrainis from both sects to promote a campaign of national unity, with the aim of restoring calm to the nation.
Efforts will be made to prevent sectarian tension and assert the nation's security and stability, in line with objectives as laid down in the National Action Charter and following the aspirations of the kingdom's wise leadership, according to a report in the Akhbar Al Khaleej newspaper.
The group has already started its work, setting up three committees that will address the political leadership, then interconnect with the community, particularly the youngsters, social establishments and the media.
Meanwhile, the National Unity Gathering (NUG) threw its support behind measures taken by security forces, including the Peninsula Shield, to restore security and stability in the kingdom. It also welcomed encouraging signs that life is returning to normal, congratulating the Bahraini people for the resilience and patriotism.
The gathering urged authorities to conduct investigations to bring to book people involved in the unrest and impose a policy of zero tolerance towards perpetrators of criminal acts. It called on the Education Ministry to identify people who abused the educational process and take legal action against them.
Ministries, state establishments and companies must fulfil their national duty and offer the best services to citizens and residents, the NUG statement added.
