- RIYADH: Najran University has embarked on a SR150-million project to meet its growing demand for electricity inside its campus, authorities announced here on Tuesday.
- Early this year, the university commissioned a similar power project valued at SR200 million.
The university, which was founded in 2006, is the country’s largest by area and covers 18 million square meters. The university complex will house two campuses separately for males and females and will encompass 15 and 10 colleges for males and females with an overall capacity of 45,000 students
It will also house administrative buildings, a medical city, a research center, sports facilities and housing accommodation for faculty and staff members as well as students. Future investments will also include a five-star hotel, commercial centers and private schools.
The contract for the construction to build a substation to ensure reliable power supplies for the university’s new complex has been offered to ABB, a leading power and automation technology group in the Kingdom.
“This substation will provide the power required for Najran University’s long-term development,” Mohammed Samkari, president of ABB, said Tuesday. "ABB’s compact substation technology will be deployed to ensure that the facility has the smallest possible footprint.”
