The case has been handed over to Kaakiya police station to complete necessary investigations.

Maj. Abdul Mohsen Al-Mayman, spokesman of Makkah police, said no criminal motives have been suspected behind the death of the pilgrim.

“Preliminary investigations have proved that it was a natural death and no criminal motives have been suspected,” Al-Mayman told Arab News.

However, he said investigations were still ongoing.

“We believe that the pilgrim might have lost his way before reaching this area,” he said, adding that there were no signs of any injury or violence on his body.

In another development, security officers in Makkah have launched a manhunt for two Saudis who opened fire on members of a committee set up to check encroachment on public properties.

The officials came under fire  by three men while they were inspecting a property in Husseiniya area along Khawajat Road. “They fled after opening fire on the officials,” a security source told Arab News.

Patrol police later arrested one of the three suspects. “Police in Aziziyah is questioning the man to determine the motive behind the shooting,” the source said.
