A senior official from the SFDA said the government has imposed a total ban on the import of these industrial nipples, which could be harmful to infants.

He added that circulars have been sent to distributors to withdraw the products from the shelves.

The China-made industrial nipples banned by the SFDA include models 10095 (140 ml) and 10099 (250 ml).

Laboratory tests of these nipples revealed they were made of polyvinyl chloride and not silicon as labeled. The nipples do not comply with Saudi standards, the authority said.

It advised people who have already bought these nipples to dispose of them immediately.

The SFDA is the authority to ensure the safety of food, drugs, biological and chemical substances as well as electronic products in the Kingdom.
