- MADRID: Spanish police fighting the armed Basque separatist group ETA say they have seized 1.6 tons of bomb-making materials this week, the largest amount they have ever found.
The Interior Ministry says police found a further 750 kilograms (1,650 pounds) Thursday in different hideouts as they acted on information provided by an ETA suspect arrested Tuesday along with his brother in a raid that netted the rest of the haul.
A ministry statement issued late Thursday said information gathered in Tuesday’s raid also led to another arrest.
ETA declared what it called a permanent cease-fire in January.
