- FOR more than 100 years Switzerland has been the place to study hotel management and related subjects.
- On the shores of Lake Lucerne, IMI is the oldest hotel school in central Sw?tzerland.
"Unlike many hotel schools, we are 100 percent Swiss owned," boasts IMI. "We are traditionally Swiss, but forward looking with close links to industry, and we welcome all nationalities," the school says in a statement. "Whatever your educational background, IMI will find the best pathway for you to develop your professional career in hospitality, tourism or events."
IMI provides a wide range of undergraduate BA (Hons) programs for high school graduates, as well as an MBA course for degree-holders with management experience students with accredited prior learning (APL) in hospitality, tourism and events may apply for direct entry to the diploma, higher diploma or BA (Hons) programs. Students who are just starting out on hospitality, tourism and events can apply to the Certificate course.
IMI supports its students in having an active social life with extracurricular activities. Students are encouraged to use their own initiative in seeking out the many sporting and cultural activities that Lucerne offers. Student surveys have shown that IMI is a "happy campus with a friendly atmosphere."
One revealing fact is that 40 percent of graduates from hotel management schools actually work in hotels. This means 60 percent work in other fields like consultancy, government, education and tourism. Many become entrepreneurs opening their own businesses.
Employability is a keyword at IMI. We aim to ensure that you will have a rewarding future. "IMI supports you in acquiring the skills that will make you leaders for tomorrow," the school says.
IMI's support for students reaches far beyond the classroom with a combination of career fairs and on campus recruitment. "Our Alumni Online DB provides a dynamic source of support enabling you to make the first step on the career ladder," the school adds.
Go directly from high school to a Bachelor's degree in hospitality in two and a half years and choose between 5 months and two and a half years of paid in training. "To ensure the right placement for you IMI can assist with your choice of in-training placement," the school stated.
Having a good command of English is essential for a successful learning experience at IMI. "Therefore, if you need help with your English we can advise you on what to do. Being able to communicate effectively is a quality held in high regard by employers and so at IMI we place strong emphasis on teaching business and hospitality English. Having knowledge of a second language also enhances one's employability, which is why we offer German, French and Spanish at IMI.
IMI says it is proud of its strong, 16-year partnership with the UK-based Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU). All of IMI's undergraduate and MBA programs are validated by MMU, ensuring a mix of Swiss hotel management knowledge and British educational knowledge.
