- DUBAI, United Arab Emirates: Bahrain’s top diplomat and prolific tweeter Khalid bin Ahmed Al Khalifa has warned followers about a spoof version of himself on the Twitter social media site.
The island kingdom’s foreign minister altered readers to the parody doppelganger Monday. The phony account replaces the second “l” in his Twitter handle “khalidalkhalifa” with an “I” and uses the same profile picture.
The real foreign minister, whose bio includes the description “bon vivant,” is something of a Twitter celebrity with nearly 32,000 followers.
Many of his tweets during Bahrain’s pro-democracy uprisings reflected the monarchy’s viewpoint. But others have contained shout-outs to fellow diplomats, a mother’s day greeting and even travel snapshots.
