- MAKKAH: Firefighters of the Civil Defense Department extinguished a massive blaze that broke out from electric wires under a road leading to King Abdulaziz tunnel.
“There was no disruption in power supply to the Grand Mosque as a result of the fire, said Lt. Col. Ali Al-Montashri, spokesman of the department.
“Our firefighters quickly put out the fire after disconnecting power supply,” he said, adding that nobody was injured in the incident that took place in Ajyad District, close to the Grand Mosque. “We have launched an investigation to determine the reason behind the fire,” he added.
The fire broke out at 12.44 in the afternoon and it affected the electric cable 180 cm underground. Brig. Jameel Arbaeen, director of the department in Makkah, supervised the operation.
