- DES MOINES, Iowa: Lucy Brown, a bulldog with bloodshot eyes and plenty of slobber, has bested 49 pups to be named this year's "Beautiful Bulldog" for the Drake Relays in Iowa.
- Lucy was decked out in pearls and a skirt when she won Monday's annual bulldog pageant in Des Moines.
She now will make a series of public appearances and serve as the mascot for the 102nd Drake Relays, a track and field meet that starts Thursday at Drake Stadium. Nancy Brown, Lucy's owner, says she was just hoping her beloved dog would take best-dressed honors.
The judges thought otherwise, crowning Lucy as the top dog in her third try. Forecasts of rain forced officials to move the contest inside for the first time in 32 years.
