Braves starter Tommy Hanson (3-3) struck out 10 and walked only one in seven innings and combined with two relievers on a four-hitter. The Padres were shut out for the major league-leading seventh time in 25 games, and for the third time on a seven-game homestand. San Diego scored only 10 runs in the seven games.

At Phoenix, Jimmy Rollins homered and had three RBIs, and Cole Hamels pitched seven solid innings to help Philadelphia avoid a three-game sweep to Arizona.

Shane Victorino and Ryan Howard each homered, Placido Polanco had four of Philadelphia's 12 hits and scored three runs, and Ben Francisco had a two-run double.

That was more than enough for Hamels (3-1) in his fourth straight solid start. The left-hander allowed three runs on four hits in seven innings.

Chris Young hit a pair of homers to drive in three runs for Arizona, a two-run shot in the sixth inning off Hamels and a solo home run off Antonio Bastardo in the eighth that cut Philadelphia's lead to 7-4.

At Pittsburgh, James McDonald pitched six sharp innings for his first victory of the season to lead Pittsburgh.

McDonald (1-2) allowed four hits and four walks while striking out three, and Chris Snyder and Jose Tabata each singled in a run for the Pirates.

Mike Crotta, Joe Beimel, Chris Resop and Joel Hanrahan completed the five-hitter. Hanrahan recorded his seventh save in seven opportunities, getting Miguel Tejada to ground into a game-ending double play with runners on first and second.

Cody Ross had two hits for the Giants, who lost for the fifth time in six games to fall below .500 at 11-12.

At Washington, Daniel Murphy delivered a game-leveling, pinch-hit homer in the eighth inning right after Jose Reyes was ruled out at third base on a disputed call, then added a two-run double in the ninth to help New York win its sixth straight.

In a seesaw game delayed 45 minutes at the start by rain, the Mets led 1-0, trailed 2-1, tied it at 2 in the eighth, fell behind 3-2 later that inning, then produced a four-run rally in the ninth.

That allowed Pedro Beato (1-0) to record his first major league win despite giving up fellow rookie Wilson Ramos' sac fly in the eighth that momentarily put Washington ahead by a run.

The Mets loaded the bases with none out in the ninth. Hu Chin-lung followed with a sacrifice fly and Josh Thole added an RBI groundout before Murphy's double.

At Houston, Kyle Lohse pitched another gem, and Matt Holliday and Tyler Greene both homered as St. Louis held off a late rally by Houston.

Lohse (4-1) allowed four hits and pitched seven scoreless innings. Holliday had three hits and his solo shot to the Crawford Boxes in left field put St. Louis up 1-0 in the fourth inning.

Greene hit his first home run of the season with his one-out shot to left field that made it 2-0 in the fifth.

The Astros scored three runs in the eighth inning before cutting the lead to 6-5 after Jason Bourgeois tripled in a run with one out in the ninth and scored on sac fly by Michael Bourn.

Angel Sanchez doubled when Lance Berkman couldn't get to his fly ball to right field, but Eduardo Sanchez struck out Hunter Pence to end the game and get his first save.

At Miami, Andre Ethier extended his hitting streak to 24 games in the fourth inning, then homered in the 10th to help Los Angeles salvage the finale of the three-game series against Florida.

Ethier led off the 10th and homered on a 1-1 pitch from Brian Sanches (3-1), ending the right-hander's streak of 13 2-3 scoreless innings to start the season. Sanches, the Marlins' eighth pitcher, had allowed only one hit previously this year.

Ethier's single in the fourth extended his major league record for the longest April hitting streak. His batting average rose to .380.

Mark Guerrier (2-1) got the win and Rod Barajas hit a three-run homer for the Dodgers, who came back from a 4-0 deficit.

At Milwaukee, Drew Stubbs hit a solo homer in the 10th inning and Joey Votto drove in four runs to lead Cincinnati past Milwaukee.

Stubbs hit a sinker from Sergio Mitre (0-1) over the center-field wall to put the Reds ahead for good.

Cincinnati, which squandered leads of 4-0 and 6-4, got a season-high 15 hits a day after managing just two in a 3-2 loss to the Brewers.

Aroldis Chapman (2-0) got out of a bases-loaded jam in the eighth using 101 mph fastballs and pitched around a two-out single in the ninth. Francisco Cordero pitched a perfect 10th for his fourth save in as many chances.
