- COLOMBO: An international media rights group is protesting the suspension of a pro-opposition news website in Sri Lanka and the detention of a reporter over an incorrect news report.
The New York-based Committee to Protect Journalists says Thursday’s court order to detain the reporter and block LankaeNews.com was just the latest attempt by the authorities to silence it.
The order was made despite the website publishing a correction and an apology.
The website’s offices were burned down earlier this year and one of its columnists has been missing for 15 months and is suspected to have been abducted.
