- RIYADH: Abdullah Al-Owain, director general of the Agricultural Development Fund (ADF), has commended the decision by Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah to write off outstanding payments to the fund by citizens who have died.
“This decision reflects the king’s kindness toward citizens and his continuous support of farmers,” Al-Owain said, adding that it would reduce the financial burden on the families of the dead.
Al-Owain said a large number of citizens, especially farmers in villages, would benefit from the royal gesture. The decision came after the government increased assistance to farmers to purchase advanced irrigation facilities that would reduce the use of water.
According to the king’s decision, the waiver would include loans taken for the purpose of purchasing cattle and cars as well as ordinary loans.
The waiver covers loans up to SR400,000 and the families of the deceased should repay amounts that exceed the figure. However, the decision will not cover loans taken for specialized projects.
