- TUNIS: A local party official in Tunisia says one of its members was shot and killed by a soldier during a stand off between protesting youths and armed forces in front of an administrative building outside the capital.
Mahmoud Toumi, 26, died on the way to the hospital after being shot in the stomach by a soldier in Soliman, a town east of Tunis.
Toumi's death was reported by Abdallah Gasmi, head of the local branch of the National Democratic Action Party.
Gasmi said that Toumi was shot when he came between soldiers and around 100 mainly teenage demonstrators, some throwing rocks at the troops.
On Saturday, authorities reinstated a curfew on Tunis as tension mounts less than 4 months after the country’s autocratic leader was ousted in pro-democracy protests.
