In a press statement, the committee said it also followed up on the cases of 40 people in Jeddah prisons detained for traffic violations with the help of the Prosecution and Investigations Commission.

It said it received 686 cases in the first and second months of the current Hijri year, settling 502 of them. It also received 357 cases in the third month of the year, settling 249.

The committee said it extended legal services to a number of men and women inmates involved in six criminal cases and one deportation case with the Jeddah passport police.

It also said it obtained identity papers and Saudi nationality for a number of men and women prisoners, and secured social security numbers for them. “We were also able to settle a number of financial cases,” it added.

The committee said it provided vocational and technical training for 360 young men and women prisoners and their children to qualify them for the labor market.

“We have also qualified more than 20 families of prisoners to make them productive families, supplying them with financial and moral support,” it said.

The committee also said it helped 96 ex-convicts to obtain jobs and compete in the labor market.
