The Marlins lost a season-worst fifth game in a row. They’ve dropped eight of 10 since sweeping the NL champion Giants.

Fielder hit a three-run homer, his 14th, and added an RBI single. Ryan Braun had two hits and scored twice for the Brewers, who were 5 for 10 with runners in scoring position.

The Brewers went 5-2 on their two-city trip to improve to 13-19 on the road. They’re 20-6 overall since May 9, best in the majors.

Jonny Gomes hit a three-run homer and drove in four overall, and the Reds sent the frustrated Cubs to their seventh straight loss.

Gomes has only two homers since April 17, both of them setting up wins over the Cubs at Great American Ball Park. Cincinnati is 5-1 against Chicago and 17-5 over the last two seasons.

Chicago’s slump is its longest since it also dropped seven in a row last July 27-Aug. 3.

Matt Garza (2-5) came off the disabled list and lasted four innings, giving up four runs. Mike Leake (5-2) had an RBI single off the right-hander, who hadn’t pitched since May 17 because of a sore elbow.

Cliff Lee hit double-digit strikeouts for the sixth time this season, fanning 10 in seven shutout innings and leading the Phillies to a win over the Dodgers.

Lee (5-5) bounced back from one of his worst starts of the season with one of his best. He allowed seven hits and walked only one, while continuing to strike out batters at a career-best rate. He has 15 career games with double-digit strikeouts—six this season.

Lee even shook off a liner to the shin in the seventh. He was fine and so were the Phillies in their first game back after a disappointing 4-5 road trip.

Antonio Bastardo tossed a scoreless eighth. Ryan Madson allowed Andre Ethier’s RBI groundout in the ninth before finishing for his 13th save.

Clayton Mortensen and five relievers combined to help the Rockies beat the Padres.

Mortensen (2-3) and the Rockies relievers shut down San Diego for its 10th shutout of the season, tops in the majors.

The Rockies won for just the fifth time in 17 games, but continued their success at Petco Park where they have won eight of the last 10.

Mortensen allowed five hits in six innings. He struck out three and walked two before he gave way to the relief corp. Huston Street pitched a pefect ninth for his 16th save in 18 chances.

Clayton Richard (2-7) took the loss despite one of his better starts this season. The left-hander gave up one run on five hits over seven innings and struck out a season-high eight with three walks.

Freddy Sanchez hit a game-ending single with two outs in the 13th inning and the Giants rallied from four runs down to beat the Nationals.

Chris Stewart, who entered the game as a pinch-hitter in the 10th, drew a leadoff walk against Craig Stammen (0-1) to start the winning rally. After Stammen struck out pitcher Javier Lopez, Andres Torres singled to right. Miguel Tejada hit into a fielder’s choice to move Stewart to third before Sanchez lined a 1-1 pitch from Stammen down the line in right.

Lopez (3-1) retired all four batters he faced for the victory.

It’s the Giants’ eighth walkoff win this season, second most in the majors. San Francisco, which squandered scoring opportunities in the ninth and 10th.
