- LAGOS, Nigeria: Kidnappings like the one involving Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel’s father continue to stain the player’s home country of Nigeria.
On Tuesday, Michael Obi left the northern city of Kano to be reunited with his family in the central Nigerian city of Jos.
Police say their rescue Monday of Obi shows they’re able to investigate crimes in the oil-rich nation, but questions still swirl around how they found the kidnap victim. Police spokesman Apev Jacob said their operation came from “intelligence,” but declined to comment further.
Meanwhile, kidnappings continue unabated in other parts of the country.
