The meeting will be chaired by Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al-Nahayan of the United Arab Emirates, current president of the six-member bloc.

“The 120th GCC ministerial meeting gains a huge significance in view of the upheavals and developments seen in the regional and international arena and also in view of the important matters tabled for discussion pertaining to GCC cooperation in various fields,” said GCC Secretary-General Abdullatif Al-Zayani.

He said the GCC ministerial council would review the recommendations submitted by specialist panels as well as the consultative council’s views regarding a study on the unification of efforts by member states in the field of translation and Arabization and endorsing Arabic language, development of alternative energy sources, global warming and climate change.

“The ministerial council will also review the situation in Yemen,” Al-Zayani said.

He also said that the GCC ministers would hold a meeting with the foreign ministers of Jordan and Morocco in order to discuss cooperation between the two countries and GCC states in compliance with the resolution issued by the GCC half-yearly summit in Riyadh in May.

Besides Saudi Arabia, the 30-year-old Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) currently includes Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates.

The proposed membership of Yemen, Jordan and Morocco would strengthen the GCC and increase its total population to 100 million people across the Arab world.
