Sabahuddin Mewati, father of Iqra, the 8 year-old Muslim girl who gave Hazare food to break his 12-day fast, was invited by Hazare to participate in the two-day meeting of Team Anna in his village.

Mewati, speaking to journalists on Sunday here, said: "Muslims are willing to join and participate in the anti-corruption movement of Hazare. But so far, the social activist himself hasn't given any call to Muslims to join his movement. When Hazare extends the invitation to the Muslims and appeals to them to join his movement, his movement would become stronger and more effective."

Mewati, an auto mechanic, further said he has been associated with Hazare's movement ever since it began at Jantar Mantar . "I have given up all my work and am devoting all my time to the movement. My sons take care of my household expenses. I give full time to the movement and I was arrested during last month's protest rally of Hazare," Mewati said.

"I have been mobilizing Muslims of Jama Masjid area where I reside. I was fasting for Ramadan at the time of the protest at the Ram Lila grounds in New Delhi. Thrice Hazare fed me with his hands at the time of iftar. Hazare is a very nice man and I really like his village," Mewati stated.

In another related development, Team Anna member Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday lashed out at Aruna Roy, member of National Advisory Council, and challenged her for an open debate on the Lokpal bill. Kejriwal said that Team Anna had several sessions of discussions with her and still she is alleging that the Anna aides are refusing to hold dialogue with people having different viewpoints.

Hazare will soon dispatch a letter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, demanding an annual performance audit of Members of Parliament, the right to recall elected representatives, the right to reject candidates contesting elections and mandatory approval of village councils before acquiring land, Kejriwal told journalists at a crowded press conference in Ralegan Siddhi. The decision, Kejriwal said, was taken at a meeting attended by Hazare, Kejriwal, Kiran Bedi, former Justice Santosh Hegde, Shanti, Prashant Bhushan, Manish Sisodia and Medha Patkar.
