Announcing the mandatory vaccine requirements for Haj, Dr. Farida Al-Hosani, head of Communicable Diseases Department at the HAAD, said that would-be pilgrims would be given shots for Meningococcal and seasonal flu. Dr. Farida emphasized the importance of taking these vaccines two weeks before traveling to the holy lands so that they provide maximum strength and immunity. She said all pilgrims are required to take these shots once. She added: "All pilgrims must show proof of the vaccinations on a certificate before entering Saudi Arabia." ''In line with the HAAD's priority to prevent and control communicable diseases in the community, the vaccination is available free of charge in a large number of clinics throughout the Emirate.” The HAAD will distribute educational material about Haj at health care facilities to increase awareness about Haj requirements.
