The Umrah season began mid February with the majority of pilgrims coming to the Kingdom during the fasting month of Ramadan, which ended on August 30.Shawwal 15 (September 13) was the last date set for Umrah pilgrims to leave the country."Any foreigner staying in the Kingdom after the expiry of his/her visa, whether for Haj, Umrah or visit, will be penalized," the directorate said.It also warned citizens and expatriates against providing accommodation or transport to overstayers, otherwise they would be fined SR10,000 or sent to prison for a month or both.The Ministry of Haj last week asked all Umrah service providing companies and establishments to make sure that all their pilgrims leave according to their departure schedules.The ministry warned that any violating company or establishment failing to abide by these rules would be punished.Meanwhile, the passport police in Najran announced that they had nabbed 496 illegal overstayers including 352 beggars.
