“The suspects are charged with carrying out 'raids' on expatriate laborers for the purpose of stealing from and robbing them. Stolen items included cash and mobile phones,” said Jeddah police spokesman Brig. Misfer Al-Juaid.

Al-Juaid said police investigators received several reports from a number of the victims. Some of them claimed they had received death threats from the bogus security officers.

“Police investigators and undercover police were able to track down and arrest seven suspects, while two others were able to escape,” said Al-Juaid.

He said the men admitted to investigators they had forged legal documents, including iqamas (resident permits), and sold them for huge amounts.

The suspects also confessed to stealing a gun that was registered to a local cleaning company.
