- JEDDAH: Police have finally arrested two men on the run suspected of impersonating officers and robbing expatriates of cash in Jeddah.
They were part of a 9-men gang of overstayers, seven of whom have already been arrested as reported by Arab News last Thursday.
“The two suspects were arrested thanks to information from the other arrested men, who gave investigators accurate descriptions of them and their possible locations,” said Jeddah police spokesman Brig. Misfer Al-Juaid.
“The two were arrested and charged with carrying out and aiding in the attacks on expatriate laborers in the Safa district for the sole purpose of robbing them.”
Al-Juaid said the gang’s victims included two Egyptian laborers and several Somalis who told investigators that the men robbed at least SR15,000 from them.
All accused are expected to receive prolonged prison sentences and possible deportation.
