Abed Rabbo asked Mansour “to demand the international community and the Security Council to bear their responsibilities toward Israeli government’s manner that contradicts with the simplest principles and laws of international community.” 

The Palestinian prisoners launched an open-hunger strike on Sept. 27 protesting the Israeli Prison Service’s (IPS) measures against them and their families. 

The PLO’s official said that Israel is “carrying out a series of haphazard measures such as collective punishments, which includes depriving the prisoners of their rights to high education, the policy of isolating prisoners and preventing their families from visiting them, as well as imposing fines and neglecting their medical treatment, measures that contradict basic human rights.” 

Abed Rabbo said in the letter that “Israel does not allow the prisoners to watch five satellite channels, bars the entry of newspapers and magazines into the prisons, obliges prisoners to meet their lawyers with their hands cuffed and separates prisoners who come from the same family.” 

The letter said that the Israeli measures “are part of the daily Israeli oppression practiced against the prisoners.”

It added that Palestinian leadership “is leading a political and diplomatic campaign to gain an international recognition of a Palestinian state and will keep defending the question of the prisoners.” 

Meanwhile, the IPS said that the measures against the Palestinian prisoners are “fully legal and carried out according to a court order.” 

Israeli authorities said that the prisoners are under daily medical supervision, and their health conditions are satisfactory and have regular visitations by International Red Cross representatives.
