- JOHANNESBURG: The South African Rugby Union says it will review coach Peter de Villiers’ performance after the ongoing World Cup and will decide who takes charge of the Springboks next season at the end of the year.
De Villiers is not expected to have his contract renewed when it expires in December, and SARU said Tuesday in a statement that “the process of making (coaching) appointments for 2012 will only be concluded toward the end of the year.”
The full Springboks coaching staff is out of contract at the end of 2011, giving SARU a chance to appoint an entirely new leadership.
De Villiers has acknowledged he doesn’t think SARU will reappoint him after South Africa’s quarterfinal exit in New Zealand, saying on his return home on Monday “the writing is on the wall” and “I will move on.”
