“The woman fell down when the suspect snatched her purse. The suspect tried to run away with the purse before he was overpowered by a passersby who witnessed the whole incident,” said Jeddah police spokesman Brig. Misfer Al-Juaid.

Al-Juaid said police were quick to arrive at the crime scene where they arrested the suspect.

“The pregnant woman, who suffered some minor injuries and bruises, was immediately transferred by the Saudi Red Crescent to the Jeddah Maternity and Children's Hospital, where she is currently receiving treatment,” said Al-Juaid.

"Police investigators are waiting for the victim’s hospital report in order to complete processing the case and recommend the appropriate punishment for the suspect."

Meanwhile, Jeddah police have reported the arrest of an Indian expatriate working for a local investment company who is suspected of embezzling around half a million riyals from his employer and attempting to flee from the country.

Al-Juaid said the suspect admitted to the crime and will be held until the stolen money is recovered.

In another incident, five illegal Yemenis were arrested recently in Jeddah. Police said the men were involved in breaking into parked vehicles in and around the city and stealing valuables.

“Security officers were able to arrest the five suspects. During questioning they all admitted to their crimes and also confessed to investigators that they targeted expensive vehicles during their criminal operations,” said Al-Juaid.
