The three-day conference will be opened at Hotel Le Meridian on Jan. 28, the organizers told reporters Saturday. The theme of the Conference is "Significance of Spirituality in the Twenty First Century."

Apart from MWL Secretary-General Abdullah Al-Turki, eminent dialogists like Karen Armstrong, John Esposito and Bishop Desmond Tutu  are expected to  attend the conference besides dialogists from various national dialog groups.

"IIDI receives support and assistance from various national and international dialog organizations for conducting this dialog. We firmly believe, as true believers in religion and in the infallibility as well as universality of moral values, that it's the core of the fraternal relations which is firmly rooted in the scriptures," they said.

"Therefore, we plan to discuss 'Interfaith Dialogue in the Twenty First Century' realizing the vital role that religion might play in molding a worldview and view of life as well as in building of a society where justice prevails".

IIDI president M D Nalapat, Hussain Kadannamanna of Friends Cultural Center representative (Doha), Swamy Sankaracharya Onkar Anand Saraswathy Maharaj of Prayagpith Paramadma Math (UP), Manu Sigh (representative of Swami Agnivesh), Fr Dr. Albert Nambiaparambil (Secretary General of World Fellowship of Inter-religious Councils) and VK Abdul Aziz, a member of IIDI's executive council, took part in the news conference.

"At a time when the inequalities are widening, prevalence of injustice and atrocities are so vicious which even engender to a suspicion that mankind became mad, the discussions on eternal truths, morality and values are particularly a life and death issue," they said in a joint statement explaining the rationale of the event.

According to them, there is an obvious difference between different world religions in the sphere of rites, rituals and cultural identities.  However, they are incredibly similar in terms of values, as if there is a steady flow from a single source without any hindrance.

"IIDI is convinced that there is a fragrance and beauty in being diverse and in keeping that diversity intact; however we want to unify various religions for the reinstallation of basic human values, the cardinal truths where all religions are fully in agreement," they said.
