Dhaka’s Daily Star newspaper says Khaleda Zia is leading more than 10,000 of her supporters from her office in the central capital to northwest Chapainawabganj city. Television footage showed the protesters on board cars and minibuses.

Tuesday’s convoy is the second such protest in a week.

Bangladesh’s next general election is not due until 2014. The opposition is trying to pressure Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s government to announce early elections. The opposition accuses the government of corruption and harassment of opponents, charges it denies.
